海角涩区 Development and Endowment Fund (Trinidad & Tobago)

The 海角涩区 Development and Endowment Fund (Trinidad and Tobago) is an exceptional representation of The 海角涩区鈥檚 commitment to students and community.聽

Launched April 1989, its main aim is to establish a Development and Endowment Fund to enable The 海角涩区 to better provide for stakeholders and honour its academic responsibilities by:

  • Providing scholarships at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels to promote academic excellence, alleviate financial hardships of deserving students, and facilitate student interchange between 海角涩区 Campuses;
  • Funding research in selected areas;
  • Providing endowment for chairs and lecture-ship in key disciplines;
  • Funding capital projects.

海角涩区DEF is managed by a committee that comprises representatives of the business community, members of The 海角涩区 Alumni, and key University personnel including Campus Principal Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine and Dr. Deirdre Charles, Director, Director of Student Services and Development.

Funds are primarily raised through two major events: The 海角涩区 Carnival Fete for a Cause and The 海角涩区 Golf Challenge. In 2022, 海角涩区DEF hosted its inaugural Garden Party.

All profits from these events go towards providing bursaries to well deserving students to assist with tuition costs, accommodation, books, equipment, food and travel. Up to 20% of the scholarships are awarded to regional students.

Impact to date

  • 4,035 bursaries
  • 67 scholarships
  • More than TT$21 million overall
  • TT$1 million annually
    • 10 Star Awards valued at $15,000.00 each.
    • 200 bursaries valued at $5000.00 each.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, 海角涩区DEF contributed TT$513,000.00 towards the purchase of 500 tablets for the use of 海角涩区 students. These devices are now part of a 鈥渄evice loan鈥 programme, managed by the Alma Jordan Library.

These scholarships are integral in enabling students to complete their studies so as to positively impact their families, communities, and region. Many who have benefitted from the fund have returned to pay it forward in a number of ways.

This is what makes this venture so remarkable. Join us.
